100% Human Hair Wigs

We create the finest quality wigs and hairpieces, ideal for those with thinning hair and hair loss, or those who just like to change up their look! Our wigs are fully bespoke, meaning that each piece is custom-made especially for the customer. Our wigs are made from 100% human hair for natural-looking, long-lasting wigs that can be styled as if they were your own hair!

How Do We Create Our Custom Wigs?

All of our custom wigs are expertly created to look as natural as possible.

In order to begin the process, we will first consult with you to discuss the requirements of your wig, including length, colour and head size etc. We may also ask you to send over some wig inspiration pictures so we can really get a feel for the look you are trying to achieve. When we have a good understanding of the above, we can provide a quote and begin to create your custom wig. Our wigs can take up to 3 weeks to complete as we individually knot every single strand of hair into the high definition lace base.

We create all of our wigs, using 100% human hair, for a natural finish that cannot be beaten. After all of the strands have been hand-tied, the roots are stripped of the cuticle to avoid matting. We will then bleach the knots to make it look like the hair is growing from the scalp. In addition to this, we razor the hair in order to taper it and lower the density, and tweeze out the hairline so that it gradually recedes around the temples as natural hair does.

We then paint on a root to mimic hair growth and hand colour the hair. When colouring our wigs, we ensure to section the hair properly and include both highlights and lowlights to create depth. By colouring hair this way, it means you can choose to part your wig wherever you like. Finally, we apply Neal and Wolf’s Velvet Oil to seal the cuticle shut.

Throughout the whole of the wig-making process, we will send you update photos so you can offer feedback on colour, length, thickness etc. to ensure that the finished product is exactly what you imagined! We will also provide you with an aftercare kit and instructions on how to look after your wig, as well as demonstrating how to fit your new wig.

Why Choose a Human Hair Wig?

The main benefit of our human hair wigs is that they can be looked after and styled just like normal hair! You can apply heat to the hair without worrying it will melt, use styling products and tie it up as you wish.

The lengths we go to to create natural-looking wigs means that they also sit flatter than most synthetic wigs, so no bouffant worries! The way in which we colour our wigs also means that the knots should be virtually undetectable allowing you to part and style your hair as you would natural hair.

Wigs made from human hair also feel just like real hair…because they are. If you are suffering from thinning hair or hair loss, a custom-made wig could be the answer to help you get your confidence back!

Wearing a Wig

Some people like to wear wigs to change up their look, while others wear them everyday. Knowing how to wear a wig correctly is important to ensure comfort and that natural finish.

The most important thing is that your wig fits. If your wig is too large it may slide around and irritate your scalp. This is why we will need head size measurements before creating your bespoke wig. You will also need to wear a wig cap liner, even if you do not have natural hair. A liner will help to keep your wig in place and create a protective barrier between the oils from your scalp and the wig. This will help your wig to last longer!

When putting on your wig, tilt your head forward and place it on your head where the front of the hairline would start. Slide the wig on and move it around until it feels comfortable. You may then want to secure it in place using wig clips or tape.

How to Look After Your Wig

When you have a custom wig created for you by The Hair Alchemist, we will ensure that you know exactly how to look after it to keep it looking beautiful for longer! We are also always on hand to answer any questions you may have, so feel free to get in touch!

The main thing to realise when looking after your wig is that it is created from 100% human hair and should therefore be looked after as such. You can wash your wig just as you do your normal hair using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (we recommend Neal and Wolf). However, bear in mind that because your wig is somewhat protected from your scalps natural oils, it will not need to be washed as often as your real hair would. You should also make sure to wash your styling tools often to reduce the likelihood of dirt being transferred onto your wig.

You should be careful when brushing and styling your wig, not to put too much strain on the knots. You can support the knots when brushing through the ends of the hair, avoiding the roots and do not tie hair too tightly when styling. This could cause tears, and shorten the lifespan of your wig.

You should also never sleep in your wig. Whilst you are asleep, your pillow can cause the hair to become frizzy and tangled. This could also reduce the lifespan of your wig and means you will have to spend more time styling it in the morning. Whilst you are not wearing your wig, you need to make sure that it is stored safely, keeping it out of the way of children and pets. We would recommend investing in a wig stand to ensure it doesn’t get tangled.

Bespoke Wigs FAQ

How much does a custom wig cost?

The price of a custom-made wig will vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. As all of our custom wigs are created using 100% human hair, they do come at a premium price point. We see them as an investment into your own self confidence.

Our wigs are handmade in the salon to your exact specifications. This ensures that your wig is of the highest quality, looks natural and makes you feel great.

The price of custom wigs will increase based on the quality and amount of hair used to create it. We always recommend Russian hair as it is the best quality hair available anywhere in the world. Longer, thicker wigs will also cost more than those that are shorter or thinner.

Can you sleep with your wig on?

We would always recommend that you take off your wig before going to sleep. When we sleep, our head moves around, whilst our hair brushes against the pillow. This can cause hair to become tangled and frizzy. If you sleep with your wig on, the same thing happens. This can significantly reduce the lifespan of your wig and stop it from looking its best.

Invest in a wig stand and place it on this whenever you are not wearing your wig. Always make sure to brush your wig gently after wearing to remove any tangles.

Can you wear a wig every day?

You can wear a wig everyday but it is important to remember to look after your scalp and hair underneath the wig too! Make sure to regularly clean both your scalp and the wig to avoid any dirt build up.

You may also want to allow your scalp breaks from your wig to ensure it does not become irritated or uncomfortable. You could try not wearing your wig when you are in the house.

It’s also important to note that the more you wear your custom wig, the more quickly you will need to invest in a new one. Prolonged wear can result in a reduced lifespan.

How do you keep a wig in place?

There are a number of different ways to secure your wig; you can choose whichever method feels most comfortable for you!

Wig caps are a popular option. They are placed over the scalp and any existing hair. The wig cap then provides a layer of friction that allows the wig to grip onto it, keeping it in place.

You could also use a wig grip band. They work in a similar way to wig caps, giving the wig a surface that it is able to grip onto. Wig grip bands are generally placed around the head where you would like your hairline to be, secured via velcro. The wig can then be placed over the band and should remain in place.

Some people sew silicone strips to the lining of their wig, which helps to keep it in place against the scalp. They can however be slightly uncomfortable as silicone is not breathable. This could result in a sweaty scalp!

Wig tape or adhesives can help to keep your wig in place without adding to the likelihood of a sweaty scalp. Wig tape is double-sided, with one side secured to your scalp and the other to the wig in order to secure it. Wig adhesive works in a similar way however it uses glue rather than tape. You should always use a medical-grade adhesive, designed for wigs if you choose to go down this route.

If you are wearing a wig for fashion purposes, rather than for hair loss, there are some other options you can look at to keep your wig in place. You could use metal wig clips. These should be attached to the lining of your wig allowing you to clip the wig to your natural hair. You could also use hair grips to secure your wig.

If you decide to get a bespoke wig from The Hair Alchemist, our expert team will be able to talk you through all of the options to secure your wig and help you decide which is the best option for you. Book a consultation.

What is the most realistic type of wig?

Human hair wigs are always going to be more realistic than synthetic wigs. All of our wigs are made from 100% human hair to ensure they look and feel natural.

Custom wigs also look more natural than off-the-shelf wigs as a custom wig will have been created specifically for you.

When creating a bespoke wig, we carry out a comprehensive consultation appointment to discuss the end result. We talk about what kind of colour, style and length you might want to go for, offer advice and recommendations, as well as allowing you to touch and feel the hair. Once we have built up a good picture of the end result, we will create your bespoke wig from scratch.

We are able to expertly colour match wigs to your natural hair for a seamless look, or create a completely fresh look in a different colour or style. We always use a variety of strand colours within our wigs to ensure that they look as natural and realistic as possible.

Are wigs good for thinning hair?

Wigs are perfect for those with thinning hair!

Some people may choose to go for a hair extension option, such as our miniature micro rings, to make their hair look thicker and fuller; however, this is not always possible. If too much hair has been lost, or the hair is particularly fine, hair extensions may not be able to be attached.

Wigs also have the added advantage of being removable so you can switch up your look whenever you like!

A bespoke wig can help you to reclaim your confidence if you are suffering hair loss, allowing you to feel more like yourself again.
